Aaron Balick, PhD is a psychotherapist, cultural theorist, media consultant, author, and director of the innovative psychology hub Stillpoint Spaces London. He has a passionate interest in ensuring that the psychological insights gained in the clinical and academic fields are made more widely accessible to the public. Dr. Balick is an active communicator with more than a decade of experience applying psychological insights to life, business, culture, and society.
Aaron is an international speaker who shares his ideas with a wide variety of audiences, from academics to entrepreneurs, and from mental health clinicians to people working in tech. He consults for the BBC on their mental health programming for young people, appears regularly on the Children’s BBC show “Lifebabble” and is an expert contributor to CBBC's "Own It" campaign, educating children about their Internet use. He has also appeared in the BAFTA nominated documentary Suicide and Me with UK rapper, Professor Green.
Most recently Dr. Balick contributed expert commentary to BBC Radio 4’s documentary programme The Digital Human talking about the psychology of shame. He is also the co-presenter, along with Nathalie Nahai, of a new podcast Seeking the Self.
Aaron is an honorary senior lecturer at the Department of Psychosocial and Psychoanalytic Studies at the University of Essex (UK). He is the author of The Psychodynamics of Social Networking: connected-up instantaneous culture and the self and the illustrated children’s self-help book Keep Your Cool: how to deal with life’s worries and stress for 11 to 15 year olds.
