In Arab culture, poetry has always been the dominant venue for creativity, enjoying unrivaled prominence among the arts throughout the centuries. The word, therefore, has been the source of creativity for any work of art, the raw material from which the infinite creative endeavors are drawn and molded. Although there have also been great works of prose in the history of the Arab/Islamic culture, notably The Arabian Nights, it is poetry that has enormously dominated the scene, both in quality and quantity, and perhaps more importantly, in its ability to permeate every class and domain. Poetry in Arab culture continues to this day to strike a deep chord.
